Shopify Review (Part 1 of 2): Pricing, Ease of Use, & Key Features

Shopify is perhaps the most known eCommerce platform, which lets you create and manage your online store. It comes packed with features and cool functionalities which will help your store develop in no time, thanks also to its POS system.

There are 2 versions of the platform: the Lite version comes at only $9/month, through which you can sell on Facebook and do very basic operations, while the Standard version starts at $29/month.

In general, Shopify is suited for people that either require a complete online store or that want to start out doing business online. In both of these cases, Shopify delivers a relatively inexpensive package, with all the features you need.

It may be a relief for you to hear that Shopify doesn’t come with additional fees, just as it was for me. No transaction fees, no additional payments for some additional features. Nothing like that. Keep in mind that credit cart fees are a separate thing, and you’ll have to pay for those, depending on the plan you choose.

You’ll notice Shopify’s ease of use right from the start: signing up for your eCommerce account is as easy (and as fast) as drinking a glass of water.

Once you register, the dashboard will open, which offers bars and menus through which you navigate and select the task you want to do. There are also shortcuts to the most used features (edit your page, add a product etc.) saving you from wasting time searching them.

What you need to do to create your website is setting up a domain, edit and customizing your page and adding your products. Each of these steps are guided and easy to do.

When designing your page, for example, you can choose between many templates and themes that will do all the work for you. If you’re more experienced, you can also use the HTML and CSS editor to design your page.

Of course, a working eCommerce website needs some specific features. Shopify will offer you all the things you need to start managing and developing your online store: you can add a cart, sell on other websites, see the statistics and analytics of your site, mobile support and much more.

With the Shopify cart you can accept credit card and PayPal, and since the system has already its own payment gateway, you don’t need to find and set up other payment processors.

Payment automation is also a very useful feature, since it results in a fast checkout. When the user wants to buy a certain product, they’ll simply have to add it to their cart, select a payment method and pay. Orders will then be processed and added to the dashboard. All of this is done without you doing anything.

Statistics are also a very nice way of tracking your store progresses. Reports can help you track how many products you sold, which ones are the most popular and much more.

As for what regards monetizing, Shopify doesn’t come short-handed here either. You’re offered a Search Enginge Optimization feature, which will make finding your store easier on, for example, Google. In addition, you can add discounts and coupons, advertise on Google, Facebook or via email and create gift cards.

In case you’re not at home and you need to access your website, you can use the Shopify Mobile app, which comes with plenty of features and is available for iOS.
